Vidya Balan’s Kahaani: Durga Rani Singh hit the screens yesterday i.e. on December 2 and it has managed to kickstart with a decent score. Being one of the most anticipated sequels of 2016, the film has raked in Rs 4.25 crs at the box office on its opening day. With decent reviews coming from all sides, the film managed to see some growth thanks to the evening crowd. Trade Analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted, “#Kahaani2 Fri ₹ 4.25 cr [1235 screens]. India biz… Picked up in evening/night shows.” Looks like the evening and night shows worked wonderfully for the film. We had earlier reported that Kahaani 2 – Durga Rani Singh has started off with an occupancy of 15-20 per cent across India, nearly 40-50 per cent in Kolkata.

Adding further to this speculation, we also guessed that by the evening, the scores of Kahaani 2 will change, considering how many evening shows have been booked prior to the release. Occupancy of the evening and night shows on day one were higher than the day shows. Perhaps mostly office crowd showed more interest to the sequel. Our trade expert – Amul Vikas Mohan had predicted that the film will earn about 6 – 8 crore on day one. “I expect Kahaani 2 – Durga Rani Singh to open decently. It can collect in the range of Rs 6-8 crore on day one, which is really good. The lifetime depends on the content of the film,” he stated. However, looks like demonetisation’s dark clouds are still lingering on people as they chose to opt out of watching the film. Kahaani 2 – Durga Rani Singh is the sequel to the 2012 hit thriller, Kahaani. The latter had earned a huge profit after people were intrigued by the plot of the film and a positive word of mouth publicity propelled the movie. Kahaani 2 – Durga Rani Singh is bigger and much more intense than the first part. Our reviewer was also impressed by the film, although, the critic did state that the film can’t be called a suspense thriller but just a thriller. With the weekend that doesn’t have any other big release except for Dear Zindagi, chances are that the film might see a little drop. As we stated earlier, the Shah Rukh Khan – Alia Bhatt starrer has raked in a very good Rs 49.25 crore at the box office in it’s second opening week.
