Ok, so you heard me mention that there is KTV Latino contest going on here in my little corner of the tropics. You may be asking, so what is KTV Latino anyway? Karoake Television for latin songs. It is aired once weekly on Tuesday evenings and is the highlight of our local programming offerings. All the songs are latin and sung by non-professional karoake aspirants. As I mentioned before, my hand picked favorite is Ms. Natalie Arceo who hails from La Isla Bonita, the island of San Pedro, Ambergris Caye. Ms. Arceo is short in stature but huge in voice power. This past week, she delivered a powerful rendition of a favorite song of mine, Ana Gabriels Simplemente Amigos.
Ana Gabriel (born on December 10, 1955) in Mexico as María Guadalupe Araújo Young, is of mixed descent. Her father Raúl Araújo was of Spanish ethnicity, while her mother Isabel Young was the daughter of Chinese immigrants. Ana first sang on the stage at age six. At age 21, in 1977, she recorded her first song, titled "Compréndeme". During her long career, she has had hits in three different genres of music: rock, Latin Pop and rancheras. Simplemente Amigos speaks of a forbidden love and can be applicable to those in relationships at the moment, about to get into a relationship or those who may have just broken up a relationship.
